Beginning January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010, when you purchase qualifying energy-efficient items from categories such as doors, windows, asphalt roofs, insulation and water heaters, you may be eligible to claim a tax credit of up to 30% off the purchase price on your 2009 or 2010 tax return (up to $1,500). A qualified tax advisor should be consulted to determine eligibility.

Eligible products must be placed in service from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010 in the taxpayer’s principal residence. For record keeping, save your receipts and the Manufacturing Certification Statement. Product categories are subject to change over the tax credit period. Please visit energystar.gov/taxcredit and consult your tax advisor for the latest information.

Asphalt Roofs All ENERGY STAR qualified reflective asphalt shingles 30% of cost, up to $1,500 on materials only. Installation or labor costs are not eligible for the 30% tax credit. "Roofs eligible for the tax credit are “reflective asphalt shingles” that meet ENERGY STAR requirements. See the ENERGY STAR criteria for water heaters."
Water Heaters Energy Factor >= 0.82 or a thermal efficiency of at least 90%. 30% of cost, up to $1,500 "All ENERGY STAR gas tankless water heaters will qualify.
